ADs

Find 5 different commercials on any online source (YouTube, Veoh, anything that can be linked). Link them on the blog and write a paragraph for each, analyzing them.

Orbit Gum Commercial
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEJJUGJZxpU
- This commercial applies to anyone really, mainly older. They put a spin on things by using funny “dirty” language to give the illusion that eating a piece of their gum will solve all their habits of poor language. This commercial is definitely made to make you laugh, and I believe it serves its purpose. They do a really good job at making their product attractive to the public.

Chevy 2011 Silverado commercial
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Re5PPoHQ3gs
- This commercial appeals to men. I like how the commercial uses natural sounds so it doesn’t take away from the truck. I believe that way they decided to break down the insides of the truck to show the positive attributes that the truck can offer someone who buys it. Plus, the animations of taking it apart the way it does is really cool and eye catching which makes the audience want to keep watching.

UbyKotex
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpypeLL1dAs
- I love this commercial. It obviously applies to girls, but in a funny way. It makes a thing that isn’t funny or enjoyable, and turns it into something to laugh about. It also points out the flaws of the competitors, and the lies that they put in their ads to make their product appear more desirable. The tone is sarcastic, which I think is completely appropriate and makes the commercial memorable.

Old spice
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owGykVbfgUE
- This commercial appeals to both men and women, in a weird way. Although, the product is directed and designed for men, the commercial takes an interesting point of view on the product. They reach out to the women telling them that a “real man” should smell like, and in order to achieve what they want in a dream guy, they have to buy their product.

Axe chocolate
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3qYT60DSKQ
- This commercial, is also one for a male body scent product. However, this ad appeals more to males. The tone they give off is envy. That when or if these boys buy this product, then girls would be instantly attracted to them and all over them. It gives these guys a sense of confidence when they wear it knowing that the girls they are trying to attract are into it.

Business Card

Back
front

I chose these colors because I wanted to give a fun, funky, attractive vibe to the company that would draw in attention to the age group. The fonts are all easy to read, but stylized so they appear to be fun and cool, which was the look I was using for. The slogan "Speed in Style", represents the idea of "speed" but also I added the style so it seems like it is selective and fun.

Questions

1) What is your business?

Super Duper Skates

- Sponsorship of skateboarders. Also sell a variation of items, such as: shirts, hats, backpacks, skateboards. Just some branded clothes, but not a major clothing corporation. Clothes will be sold at stores such as PacSun and Zummies.

ex: Hurley, DC

2) Describe your business in one sentence

Ex: We find skateboarders, usually young, with undiscovered talent and give them a chance to become a Professional skateboarder and represent our name.

- main accomplishment is finding talent to represent our brand and help get there name out in the professional world.

3) Who is your target audience?

Ex: Skaters. Professional skaters. Families. Teenagers. Casual skaters. Athletes.Men. Women.

- age group: 16-25; basically the same as the example given.

4) Who are your competitors?

Hurley, DC, Vans, Zoo York, DVS... etc

5) What makes them better/worse than your product/service?

Ex: All these companies are already established, so their products are already known to the public as "popular". Also, they have been around for years, so kids know that these are the companies to represent if they want to get established. Brands already in stores.

- What we have on them is we are a smaller establishment, and are looking for new fresh faces. We have more room for sponsorship since we're just starting fresh. New fun look. We pay more attention to the quality of our skaters and constantly improving their skills with trainers, rather than just giving them products to wear. Some of these other companies are so big that the people who are sponsored within get lost and have to compete in there own company for a spot, however with us we, we give more individual time with the skaters and make sure that they are taken seriously so we don't waste their's or our time and resources.

6) Do you currently have an identity? (This is more for companies that are already established and you’re just revamping the logo/corporate identity. If you have a new company or product, skip this question.)

No, Brand New product.

7) (If your answer to #6 is no, skip this question) What do you like about it and what don’t you like about it?

Why is this important? Even if you plan to change the logo entirely, it’s good to keep an inventory about what specifically worked and didn’t work about your previous design in order to inform the new one.

8) How do you want your image to be seen in two years?

Ex: In two years, I want this company to be seen as exclusive. I want what sets us apart from the others to be the fact that we only take the best, and the talent we do take, I want it to be unique and envied over. Basically, I want this company to be the Harvard, or Yale, of Skateboarder's dreams. This is important because I don't want to have just a decent reputation. I want this company to stay a place where it takes care of the people the we choose to represent us, and that way it makes it more appealing to the younger generations. Some what of a goal they can aim for and a standard they can live by, rather than just a brand for them to wear.

We want this company to be seen as a place you can trust for high quality, custom skate parts.

Why is this important? This is something that you will have to portray in your corporate identity.

These following questions might seem silly, but their purpose is to help generate ideas.

9) If your company was an animal, what animal would it be and why?

A Jaguar. Sleek, trendy, but unique. A truly beautiful animal, with a feisty attitude.

.

10) If your company/brand was a person, who would it be and why?

Tony Hawk. A very well respected skateboarder, who keeps a very positive image and have good morals and priorities. An example we would want our representatives to have.

11) If your company/brand was an object, what would it be?

Ex: Skateboard

12) If your customer was a cartoon character, who would it be?

Skeeter Valentine from Doug. Young, cool, hipster.

Logo Critique

wendys_logo.png

- This is the Wendy's Logo. I see this logo as welcoming. A place where people view as comfortable to go too. Using the colors yellow and red, also used in the McDonald's logo, are used to represent hunger. The use of the little girl Wendy makes this look like a kid friendly restaurant, making kids more drawn to the idea of going there. I believe it looks like a friendly place where anyone can attend, especially with "Hamburgers" in bold, it makes the idea of one get stuck in your head. Also, using the expression "Old Fashioned.." makes it adult friendly because it makes them relate too the type of burgers they remember, or want.

walt_disney_logo1.jpg

- The Disney logo, for me, always brings happiness. With the castle in the background and the unique font that is used, it just makes you curious about the magic behind Disney. I believe this is a logo that is recognized by almost anyone, which makes it easy to relate too. This logo is definitely more directed towards kids. Little Kids all know Disney as this magical place where they want to go, so they immediately recognize the lettering and the castle in the background. The color Blue is used to represent peacefulness, which makes Disney all the more attractive to people of all age groups.

bmw+logo.jpg

- The BMW logo, to me represents success. This logo is directed towards adults, I would say both gender equally. I know that I associate BMW's with wealth of some sort, in some ways a car people get to show off. It gives off a bold statement of class in my eyes. If I were too own the BMW of my dreams, I'd feel powerful in a way.

nba_logo1.jpg- The NBA logo, I believe is very much directed towards Men, of all ages. The colors are very bold and attractive, and they do a very good job of drawing you in. The white outlined basketball player in the middle jumps off the page and makes you realize that this is a strong representation of sports. Even with the basketball player being a guy, it gives off a masculine vibe which although some girls are into basketball, this ad isn't as appealing to them as it is for men.

- Although, this is an older Kool Aid logo, I believe this is a strong attraction towards kids. Again, with bold colors that make this ad look more appealing and attractive, and also the font they used makes it look fun and exciting. Not to mention the use of a giant, smiling, cartoon pitcher of Kool Aid is also a immediate funny attraction for kids.

Class

COM 210, or ART 210, whichever you want to call it, I feel will be very beneficial for me. Having the strong interest in photography that I have, I feel learning how to use the programs that this class surrounds will open my eyes to a whole new artistic side of me. I hope to find a new talent that I didn't know I had while taking this class.
